Richard Duffield was born in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire in 1956 and from an early age was drawing and painting the wildlife that inhabit this beautiful part of England. Having studied art and music at teacher training college, in 1974 he went on to become an illustrator for a local business.
In 1980 he became a freelance wildlife artist fulfilling commissions for organisations such as The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and exhibiting his work nationwide.
In 1989 Richard took the position of Head of Scenic Art at The Works, a Leeds based company specialising in museum development and television. During this time he produced substantial work for museums such as The Tower of London, The Royal Armories, The Royal Shakespeare Museum and The National Railway Museum at York, to name but a few, and many popular TV programs.
Throughout these years Richard continued to produce wildlife paintings and in 2001 he chose to return to freelance work where his skills have brought recognition in both wildlife and landscape painting. Today his limited edition prints and original paintings can be found in private collections worldwide.
